Location - CrossFit Amatak was well located and pretty central. We walked there from the Air BnB that we were staying in. We'd looked around for some gyms online but everything seemed to either be part of a health spa, or had more of a class atmosphere. Although, I image there are a lot of decent gyms if you hunt hard enough!
Price - The first class was free! So like if us you're passing through, then you guessed it, free gym session! However, painfully and like with all CrossFit Gyms - single price entry is a far outcry from a travellers budget. A single entry is $13, a week (Traveller Pass) is $50. The $13 you'd pay does include doing a class or the daily WOD (workout of the day) so personally it is worth the money to do maybe a couple of times.
Equipment - Equipment here is great! The floors are completely matted and there are TRX machines everywhere. Exactly what you'd expect from a CrossFit Gym. Good sized space.
Extras - Theres a snack bar selling protein shakes, food and water. This like the entry from what we recall was also overpriced.
Synopsis - We both love CrossFit and the class was fantastic. The coach knew what he was talking about and certainly helped us both to improve a couple of our techniques. The WOD we did included some pretty hardcore movements from doing multiple burpees mixed with a clean and press movement. If you're not an experienced gym goer, or have never done CrossFit type training, then frankly I don't feel this would be a safe thing to do, due to risk of injury. I'd also say there wasn't enough of a warm up before we jumping into doing handstand push-ups against the wall (shoulder injury 101!!). Still, for us, two people that love slogging it out doing some hardcore HIIT training, it was amazing. Katie actually achieved the Highest female score on board for the entire week (and it was Saturday) and I pulled out second in the mens (not that we're boasting).
Overall, this was a fantastic training session, the gym was great, the coach was cool, plus unlike a lot of other CrossFit gyms the people were not cliquey. However, the big thing for me would be that I would never pay $13 to go to the gym while travelling. $26 for both of us is pretty much our accommodation sorted for 3 days!
